Xbox users experienced a brief service disruption on September 2, 2026, encountering errors when attempting to sign in or create accounts. Official channels alerted the community to the problem as investigations began.
The official Xbox Support account posted updates regarding the trouble, noting that the sign-in issues lasted for roughly an hour. At 3:35 PM BST, an update confirmed that engineering teams had implemented mitigation measures and that signing in and creating accounts should be functioning normally once again.
Despite the mitigation confirmation, the Xbox Status dashboard continued to indicate a major outage for Account & Profile as well as Games & Gaming at the time of writing. The September incident follows a previous multi-hour Xbox outage on July 27, which the Xbox CTO previously described as an unacceptable situation.
