Sony is preparing to release an improved version of the PlayStation App for iOS and Android in the next few days, according to an announcement from the official PlayStation account on October 2, 2026. The update introduces expanded social features designed to help players keep track of what their friends are playing.

The redesigned app adds a dedicated social tab at the bottom of the interface. At the top of that tab, a widget displays friends' current activity. A short video teaser shared on social media also shows a slight visual refresh across the app.

Push Square notes that the PS App has traditionally been used for browsing the PlayStation Store and downloading PS5 screenshots and videos for sharing elsewhere. The new social layer aims to make the app a more frequent destination for staying connected with the PlayStation community.

Rollout begins over the coming days. No changes to core store or remote download functionality were mentioned in the teaser.
