Reports suggest Ape Escape revival is in development

Reports indicate that a revival of the Ape Escape franchise is currently in development. According to information from gaming journalist Jeff Gerstmann and Video Games Chronicle, the project is reportedly being handled by Evening Star, the studio responsible for Sonic Mania and Penny's Big Breakaway.

Gerstmann shared these details during a recent podcast episode, noting that while the project has been discussed for nearly a year, it does not appear to be close to release. He clarified that the development is being handled by an external studio rather than Team Asobi. "My understanding is that an external team has been working on that," Gerstmann said. He added that when he first heard about the project, it sounded as though the game had only recently been greenlit and was just getting underway.

This news follows broader reports that Sony is interested in reviving several classic PlayStation franchises. In addition to Ape Escape, other rumored revivals include Sly Cooper and Killzone. Reports suggest that People Can Fly may be working on a Killzone project. While some speculation suggests this first wave of revived franchises could arrive around the launch of the PlayStation 6, Sony has not made any official announcements regarding these titles or their release timelines.

As of now, these reports remain unconfirmed by Sony. The involvement of Evening Star would mark a significant move for the Ape Escape series, which has been dormant for several years.
