GameStop and Major Retailers List Used PlayStation 5 Pro at 66 Percent Over MSRP
GameStop, Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart are now pricing used PlayStation 5 Pro consoles between $1,399.99 and $1,499.99, more than double the original $699.99 launch price as supply remains constrained.

GameStop has updated its store listings to sell used PlayStation 5 Pro units at $1,399.99 for the digital edition and $1,499.99 for versions bundled with the disc drive attachment. The change follows an internal email shared on the GameStop subreddit last night that advised employees of the new trade-in and resale prices. Color variants such as the Wolverine Yellow SKU are priced in line with those figures.
Third-party sellers on Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart have matched the increase, pushing the secondary market 60 to 66 percent above the manufacturer's suggested retail price. The launch price of $699.99 has effectively doubled since the console debuted, a climb the source attributes to rising RAM and storage costs driven by an ongoing AI-related component crunch.
New PlayStation 5 Pro units remain unavailable from Sony's direct-sales store, and the standalone disc drive attachment is also out of stock. That scarcity has shifted buyers toward the used market, where retailers are now setting the floor.
Demand for the higher-end console is likely amplified by Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar's upcoming title is advertised on the PlayStation store as "PS5 Pro Enhanced," signaling support for the system's higher graphical ceiling. Players who have not yet entered the current generation but plan to buy the game may find the entry cost significantly higher than expected.
The trend extends beyond Sony. Nintendo recently enacted the first U.S. price increase for the Switch 2, with the company's president warning that a long-term memory shortage may "put pressure on profitability." Microsoft has raised Xbox hardware prices multiple times over the past two years. The combined effect is a console landscape where hardware costs are rising rather than falling.
