Riot Suspends Tatu From CBLOL Playoff Series Following STEPZ Incident

Riot Games has fined and suspended Brazilian League of Legends jungler Pedro 'Tatu' Seixas following an incident during the CBLOL Playoffs. During the match, FURIA professional player Tatu celebrated passionately and shouted trash talk from across the stage before walking over to confront his jungle opponent, RED Canids jungler Eloy 'STEPZ' Rodríguez. According to reports, the confrontation occurred in response to STEPZ allegedly calling Tatu a dog and a son of a bitch. As a result of the incident, Tatu will miss the Upper Bracket semi-finals against Los and has received a R$15,000 ($3,000 USD) fine.

An official statement from Riot and CBLOL noted that the behavior violated regulations and the Riot Games Global Esports Code of Conduct, marking a repeat violation for the player. Tatu previously broke the code of conduct earlier in the season when he messaged an external friend regarding a champion select build during a match, which resulted in a one-match suspension and a R$10,000 ($2,000) fine handled by coach Lucas Yudi 'Luuukz' Higashi. Riot permitted FURIA to field an emergency substitute for the upcoming series against LOS, requiring the organization to select a player by Thursday, September 10th.

Tatu issued an apology following the suspension, stating that he recognizes he went too far, is learning from the situation, and feels heavy responsibility for how the punishment impacts his entire team. The suspension has sparked debate within the esports community regarding player personality and appropriate boundaries. Former LEC caster Adrian 'Jamada' Wharlton-Thorne and caster Jake 'Hysterics' Osypenko criticized the punishment as overkill, arguing that the esports scene benefits from passion and rivalry. Conversely, former coach Peter Dun and LCS caster Barento 'Raz' Mohammed defended the decision, with Dun stating that walking into an opposing team's area crosses an acceptable boundary and Raz asserting that the action risked inciting a physical fight.
