PlayStation Portal's September update, version 7.1.7, is now live with a focus on battery longevity. The portable device has received a new feature that sets an 80% charge limit by default to support long-term battery health.

When players install the update, the 80% cap activates automatically. Users can adjust this limit manually through Settings, then System, then Battery. However, PlayStation cautions that setting the limit above 80% could "impact battery performance and overall stability, reducing long-term battery health."

The battery health feature aligns with industry practices already common on many modern devices. Avoiding complete depletion or full charges, plus preventing overheating, helps preserve battery longevity over time.

Beyond battery improvements, update 7.1.7 enhances system software performance and stability across messages and various interface screens. Players must update their PlayStation Link device to the latest software version to maintain connection with the PlayStation Portal, which can be done by connecting the USB adapter to a PS5 or PC.

This update follows the PlayStation Portal's March release of a 1080p High Quality mode during Remote Play and Cloud Streaming, which prioritizes video quality at the cost of increased data usage.
