Ghost Rider Officially Joining the MCU, Starred by Ryan Gosling and Directed by Shawn Levy

Marvel Studios has officially announced that Ghost Rider is entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with actor Ryan Gosling taking on the lead title role. The project was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, marking a significant milestone for Gosling, who had reportedly expressed a desire to play the character for several years before Kevin Feige greenlit the production.

The upcoming film will be directed by Shawn Levy, who previously collaborated with Gosling on the Star Wars movie Starfighter. Jonathan Tropper is attached to write the screenplay. According to Feige, Gosling approached Marvel with a specific vision for the character based on particular comics, though official plot details and the exact iteration of Ghost Rider that Gosling will portray—such as Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch—have not yet been publicly disclosed.

Ghost Rider is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 28, 2028. The film will serve as part of a slate of three Marvel movies releasing in 2028, following an X-Men movie in May and preceding Black Panther 3 in December. Filming has not yet begun, and no official trailer has been released, with industry expectations pointing toward a potential preview in late 2027 or early 2028.

As of right now, Ryan Gosling remains the only confirmed member of the cast. While past cinematic and television iterations of the character were portrayed by Nicolas Cage and Gabriel Luna, this new project is set to introduce the primary MCU version of the Spirit of Vengeance.
