Ed Boon, Chief Creative Officer at NetherRealm Studios, has addressed recent speculation about Injustice 3 by debunking claims that the game is currently undergoing external testing.

The rumors surfaced after reports mentioned a major 2D fighting game scheduled for playtesting in California. Players quickly speculated the title could be Injustice 3, but Boon moved to clarify the situation via X (formerly Twitter).

Boon stated that rumors about NetherRealm partnering with Insomniac Games to develop a "AAAA fighting game" were "100% false." When asked directly whether NetherRealm was testing Injustice 3, Mortal Kombat 13, or Mortal Kombat, he responded simply: "All False."

However, Boon added an important qualification. He noted that "just because a game isn't currently being tested externally doesn't necessarily mean the game isn't in development." This leaves the door open for Injustice 3's existence as a project, even if playtesting is not happening now.

NetherRealm has not officially confirmed Injustice 3 is in development. In 2022, Boon polled players on whether they wanted Injustice 3 or Mortal Kombat 12 next, before the studio released Mortal Kombat 1 in 2023. Multiple rumors and leaked resumes from anonymous artists at Warner Bros. Games have previously suggested the fighting game is in the works, though none have been verified.
