Alan Ritchson In Talks To Lead Sony's Helldivers Movie After Jason Momoa's Exit
The Reacher star is negotiating to replace Jason Momoa as the lead in Sony's live-action Helldivers film, directed by Justin Lin. The movie is scheduled for November 10, 2027.

Alan Ritchson, star of Prime Video's Reacher series, is in talks to lead Sony's upcoming live-action Helldivers movie, according to reports from The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline. If negotiations succeed, Ritchson will take on the role vacated by Jason Momoa, who departed the project in June.
The Helldivers film was first announced in February with Momoa attached to star and Justin Lin, known for his work on the Fast and Furious franchise, set to direct. Lin remains on board as director. Momoa's reasons for leaving were not disclosed.
Ritchson's star has risen significantly since Reacher debuted on Prime Video in 2022. While he has appeared in numerous films, this would mark his first time headlining a major studio feature. His recent credits include War Machine, Fast X, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and Runner.
The actor's extensive action background positions him well for the role. His on-screen presence and physicality align with the demands of an adaptation based on the cooperative shooter game.
Sony announced the Helldivers live-action movie during CES 2025, alongside a live-action Horizon Zero Dawn adaptation and a Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime series. No plot details have been revealed yet. The film is currently scheduled for release on November 10, 2027, though the ongoing casting process could affect that timeline.
Additional cast roles are expected to be announced once Ritchson's deal is finalized.
