Sony has cast Alan Ritchson to lead its Helldivers movie adaptation, pushing the film's release date to June 9, 2028. The movie was previously scheduled for November 10, 2027.

Ritchson replaces Jason Momoa, who exited the project this summer. Momoa is best known for playing Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe. Justin Lin remains attached to direct the film.

The casting and release-date adjustment were announced by Sony in an official press release.

The Helldivers movie arrives as video game adaptations continue gaining traction in Hollywood. Recent successes include the Super Mario Bros. films, which have performed strongly at the box office, and Zach Cregger's Resident Evil movie, which recently became the highest-rated video game adaptation on Rotten Tomatoes. Nintendo is also developing a live-action Legend of Zelda film for theatrical release.

Beyond film, television projects based on game franchises remain in active development. HBO Max is producing The Last of Us season three, expected to be the series' final season. Far Cry, God of War, Life Is Strange, and Assassin's Creed all have TV projects in development across various studios.
