The Witcher 3 Remastered Breaks Steam Records Despite Crowded Release Calendar
The Witcher 3 has reached its highest concurrent player count ever on Steam following the launch of its remastered edition, surpassing a record set eight years ago after the Netflix series debut.

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt has hit a new milestone on Steam. The remastered edition launched to record-breaking numbers, peaking at 120,975 concurrent players and breaking the previous all-time high of 103,329 players set in January 2020 after the Netflix series premiere.
The Remastered Edition brought substantial technical and graphical improvements to the 2015 original. More notably, it arrived as a free upgrade for existing owners, likely driving many of the 65 million lifetime players back to the game.
The surge is particularly striking given the crowded gaming landscape. Recent releases including Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Control Resonant, Marvel's Wolverine, and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave all launched within weeks of each other, with most publishers strategically avoiding November's GTA 6 release window. Live-service games continue to dominate player charts as well.
The Witcher 3 is available across multiple platforms: Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S, suggesting the true concurrent player count across all platforms exceeds Steam's numbers.
Looking ahead, CD Projekt Red plans a new expansion called Songs of the Past for 2027, with The Witcher 4 potentially arriving as soon as 2028. The studio is also rumored to be developing a multiplayer Witcher game and recently confirmed a partnership with Scopely on a new mobile title, though the specific franchise has not been announced.
