The American gaming market experienced a notable downturn in June 2026, marking a significant decline for the first time in a year. According to estimates shared by Circana analyst Mat Piscatella, gamers in the United States spent a total of $4.49 billion on video games, hardware, and accessories during the month. This represents a 21 percent decrease compared to the previous year, following an overall spending increase during the earlier months of 2026.

Piscatella explained that the primary driver behind the decline was a tough statistical comparison against June 2025. The previous year benefited heavily from the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, which drove high sales before the market normalized. Video game spending accounted for the majority of the total at $3.88 billion, reflecting a 12 percent year-over-year decrease.

Hardware sales suffered the steepest drop, falling 62 percent to $383 million. Nintendo Switch 2 sales decreased by 79 percent, and PlayStation 5 sales dropped by 19 percent. In contrast, Xbox Series hardware sales more than doubled. Gaming accessories also saw lower demand, totaling $232 million with a 21 percent decline.

EA Sports UFC 6 emerged as the highest-grossing paid game in the US for June. The indie hit Meccha Chameleon claimed the second spot. The top 10 chart also featured Star Fox (2026), a remake of Star Fox 64 for the Nintendo Switch 2, as the only other new entry.
