Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Launches with Extensive Patch and Weapon Balancing
Activision and Infinity Ward have released the launch patch for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, introducing weapon tuning, ability adjustments, and numerous bug fixes across Multiplayer and DMZ.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, arriving with a comprehensive set of patch notes from Activision and Infinity Ward. The launch content includes 20 multiplayer maps, 33 weapons, and 33 Operators, alongside a new Prestige system.
A primary focus of the launch update is weapon tuning and balancing. SMGs have been made more efficient for close to mid-range combat. To balance powerful one hit kill weapons, the developers have implemented damage tuning and flinch. All weapons underwent a deep balance pass to ensure player choice is not dictated by requirement. Additionally, the team tuned attachments within the Gunsmith to provide more flexibility. Players now have access to Advanced Weapon Stats at launch to assist with playstyle choices.
The attachment ecosystem has been streamlined so there are "no redundant unlocks." Once a player unlocks an attachment, it becomes available for every compatible weapon. Weapon Prestige returns with Apex variants.
Several abilities and perks have been adjusted. Battle Hardened now more effectively negates effects from Tactical grenades, specifically the Screamer Mine, Concussion, and Flash. Resupply has been buffed to increase the speed of the first recharge. Blood Rush now triggers Tactical Sprint by default when the sprint key is pressed, though this can be changed in the Movement Advanced Settings. Tactical Sprint is no longer available by default.
Multiplayer updates include adjusted spawns on every map and changes to killstreaks, such as increasing the resilience of UAVs. Technical improvements include reduced pre-game countdown timers and new logic to start pre-loading maps earlier to prevent loading slowdowns.
The patch addresses various bugs across different modes. In the Gunsmith, saving Weapon Builds is now a manual process to prevent the build list from being flooded, although builds edited during a match still save automatically. Audio fixes include adding missing destruction audio for multiplayer objects, fixing muted Heartbeat Sensor pings underwater, and adjusting the audio mix for the Nuke sequence and Chopper Gunner.
For the DMZ mode and campaign, the update fixes several stability issues. This includes a crash occurring when breaching a door in Breaking New Ground and an issue where the After-Action Report could incorrectly show 0 XP after a first match. Specific fixes for Nintendo Switch 2 address a missing prompt in the Chemical Denial Dynamic Op at NuriGO Mall and an issue preventing the purchase of saved Blueprint modifications.
Other fixes include resolving an issue where the Seeker Drone could deploy out of bounds and correcting a bug where the Killstreak counter reset after using the Argonaut. In DMZ, the ISO Apex Attachment now functions as intended, and a fix was implemented for the "King Slayer" Calling Card to ensure all squad members receive XP and progress when defeating a Commander.
