Tropico 7 launches on Nintendo Switch 2 in January 2027

Kalypso Media, Gaming Minds Studios, and Engine Software announced today that Tropico 7 is heading to Nintendo Switch 2. The game will launch on January 28, 2027 as Tropico 7 – Special Edition, a version specifically optimized for the handheld platform.

Players will step into El Presidente's boots to build and manage their island nation across five campaign maps. The Switch 2 edition brings the series' signature mix of city building, politics, economics, and questionable presidential decision-making to a portable format, allowing aspiring dictators to rule their nation from anywhere.

The Special Edition makes use of the console's unique features. The game supports mouse controls through Joy-Con controllers for more precise management of island construction and development. GameChat functionality lets players communicate with friends via voice chat or share their screen during gameplay.

Tropico 7 expands the series' formula with new mechanics. The revamped Council brings faction leaders directly into the halls of power, where they can be negotiated with, manipulated, or ignored entirely. A new Terraforming system gives players greater control over the landscape, allowing them to raise land, redirect rivers, create parks, and even form new islands.

Customization options extend beyond island design. Players can personalize El Presidente's appearance and their palace with creative options at no cost. These customizations tie into synergy effects that help create a happier environment and increase citizen satisfaction.

Tropico 7 – Special Edition is currently in development for Nintendo Switch 2.
