Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka has recently drawn criticism following reports regarding employee treatment and working conditions. While visitors often praise the meticulous recreation of the Mushroom Kingdom, reports from Shukan Bunshun suggest that the reality for staff members can be vastly different.

According to the reports, employees have faced potentially illegal contracts featuring loopholes designed to leverage workers' aspirations of collaborating with Nintendo. Additionally, staff members reportedly encounter difficulties if they wish to leave their positions, with unilateral resignations allegedly triggering a penalty fee of ¥500,000—an amount estimated to be roughly equivalent to two months of wages at the park.

Beyond contractual concerns, the physical demands of the roles have raised significant issues, particularly concerning extreme weather. Osaka's summers are notoriously hot and humid, placing intense physical strain on employees who wear heavy, padded costumes to portray characters like Luigi and Toad.
