Pokémon HOME Adds FireRed and LeafGreen Link on October 7, Free Celebi Included

Pokémon HOME is adding support for Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen on October 7, according to Insider Gaming. The update will allow players to transfer Pokémon from the Game Boy Advance titles into the app, and then move them into other compatible games.

To roll out the new functionality, Pokémon HOME will go offline for about six hours starting at 00:00 UTC on October 7. The downtime is tied to the release of Pokémon HOME version 4.1.0, which introduces the FireRed and LeafGreen link. The update is focused almost entirely on this new compatibility feature.

As part of the launch, players who link FireRed and LeafGreen with Pokémon HOME can claim a free Lv. 50 Celebi. The Mythical Pokémon is distributed automatically through the Pokémon HOME mobile app to anyone who has completed the Kanto Pokédex. Notably, Mew is not required to unlock Celebi, even though it cannot be obtained in FireRed and LeafGreen.

Once transferred, Pokémon cannot be sent back to FireRed and LeafGreen, so players should confirm they want to move their creatures before doing so. The transfer process itself is described as straightforward, requiring only that players boot up their Switch or Switch 2 console after the link becomes available.

The compatibility update marks the first time in over twenty years that FireRed and LeafGreen can directly connect to Pokémon HOME, giving longtime fans a new way to preserve and use their classic teams.
