Stephen Root Confirms He Is Playing Brian Heder in Grand Theft Auto VI

Actor Stephen Root has confirmed he plays Brian Heder in Grand Theft Auto VI. This makes him the first performer to publicly acknowledge a role in Rockstar Games' upcoming title. Root spoke to the Associated Press at the BAFTA TV Tea Party in Beverly Hills on September 13. When asked directly whether he appears in GTA 6, he stated that players will see him in it.

Root explained that keeping the role quiet was difficult because his character appeared early in promotional material. He noted that his voice work on shows like King of the Hill made his delivery recognizable to viewers immediately. According to Rockstar's official character page, Brian Heder is a longtime drug runner based in the Leonida Keys. The character is tied directly to protagonist Jason Duval, letting Jason live rent-free in exchange for help with local shakedowns.

Rockstar has not released an official cast list for GTA 6, and actors working on the project are reportedly bound by non-disclosure agreements. Root stands as the only actor to confirm a role on the record. Other names have circulated through fan speculation, including Manni L. Perez regarding the role of Lucia, though she has not confirmed her involvement. Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. No personal computer version has been announced by the publisher at this time.
