StarCraft GM Dan Hay Confirms Protoss Appearance and Third-Person Perspective
GameSpot spoke with GM and creative director Dan Hay about the upcoming StarCraft title, confirming that players will face the Protoss and experience a third-person perspective with a single-player focus.

StarCraft developers have confirmed that the Protoss will appear in the upcoming game, following an absence from the initial reveal trailer that focused primarily on the Terrans and Zerg. GameSpot spoke with general manager and creative director Dan Hay at BlizzCon regarding faction interactions. While Hay remained coy on specific details, he noted that players will fight the Protoss at some point.
Hay emphasized the distinct identity of each faction, pointing out the ancient mystique of the Protoss, the infinite organic power of the Zerg, and the haphazard industrial approach of the Terrans. He also noted that players can spot a subtle hint of the Protoss in the trailer if they look closely at the background architecture when a door opens and a horn sounds.
Furthermore, Hay confirmed a third-person perspective for the project. While the trailer does not reflect direct gameplay, the new perspective showcases a different scale, such as a Terran soldier looking up in terror at a massive Zerg Overlord compared to the traditional isometric camera view from past titles in the series. Hay also confirmed that the new game will have a single-player focus.
