Sony Ends 60-Year CES Streak, Skipping 2027 Show
Sony will not attend the Consumer Electronics Show for the first time since 1967, marking the end of six decades of consecutive appearances at the annual tech event.

Sony is breaking a 60-year tradition by skipping the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2027. The company has attended every CES since the event debuted in 1967, but confirmed to Bloomberg it will not participate in the upcoming show.
Sony attributed the decision to a strategic evaluation of its approach to events and communications. The company said it is now prioritizing entertainment content including games, anime, films, and music over pure technology showcases. CES remains primarily a technology-focused event.
Over the decades, Sony used CES to reveal PlayStation hardware and related announcements. In 2020, then-PlayStation boss Jim Ryan unveiled the PS5 logo at the show, a moment fans largely viewed as underwhelming given the lack of concrete details. Two years later, Sony announced PlayStation VR2 and the game Horizon: Call of the Mountain at CES 2022. More recently, the company announced transmedia adaptations including Horizon and Helldivers movies at the event.
The move leaves CES without major PlayStation announcements for the first time in years. Microsoft revealed the original Xbox at CES 2001 with Dwayne Johnson but did not maintain a tradition of major Xbox announcements at the show. Nintendo famously unveiled the first NES prototype, then called the Advanced Video System, at CES 1984.
CES 2027 runs January 6-9 in Las Vegas.
