Sony Testing Cashback Rewards for Digital PS5 Game Purchases

Sony is testing a cashback rewards system for digital PS5 game purchases, according to a Reddit discovery that has surfaced online. Select titles including The Blood of Dawnwalker, Halloween, Star Wars Zero Company, Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 2, and Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush currently appear to support "Wallet Credit" rewards in the United States.

The feature displays the cashback amount at checkout before purchase. One user who bought The Blood of Dawnwalker reported receiving $10 in wallet credit, which can be reinvested into the PS Store. The rollout appears limited to a select group of users for now, and Push Square was unable to independently replicate the feature across all accounts.

A "Wallet Credit" app has been spotted in the PS Store but cannot currently be downloaded, suggesting it may eventually allow players to manage rewards directly on their console. The initiative marks an attempt to incentivize digital purchases as Sony continues phasing out physical media on the PS5.

Cashback schemes like this are designed to encourage repeat purchases. Players receiving credit toward future games are more likely to spend additional money on the platform, potentially offsetting the cost of the initial reward. Sony previously offered similar benefits through PS Stars, which provided players with occasional $5 top-ups before being discontinued.

Until Sony makes an official announcement, the wallet credit system remains unofficial and appears to be in testing phases. There is no confirmation of a broader rollout timeline or which additional games may become eligible for rewards.
