Sony Announces 'Live TV on PS5', a Free App Launching Today in the US

Sony has announced 'Live TV on PS5', a new free, ad-supported application launching in the United States that offers over 100 live channels and on-demand entertainment.

Sony has officially announced 'Live TV on PS5', a brand-new application located within the Media section of the PlayStation 5 console. The free, ad-supported streaming experience is launching in the United States. According to announcements from the PlayStation Blog, the service provides players with access to discover more than 100 live channels alongside a growing selection of on-demand entertainment spanning news, sports, movies, TV shows, anime, and more directly from the console's home screen.

To access the new application at launch, users can navigate to the Media tab on the PS5 home screen, select the Live TV on PS5 icon, and choose the option to sign in with their PlayStation account to begin viewing. The service features a broad mix of programming provided by Sony Pictures Television. For movie fans, available channels at launch include MovieSphere by Lionsgate, 50 Cent Action, FilmRise Free Movies, Sony One Horror Hits, and Cinevault, offering action, horror, and sci-fi films.

The TV show lineup incorporates popular programs such as Community, The Shield, Hell’s Kitchen, The Walking Dead, Forensic Files, Unsolved Mysteries, Deal or No Deal USA, Fear Factor, and Ice Road Truckers from A+E’s HISTORY. Anime enthusiasts will find titles like Naruto, Sailor Moon, Hunter x Hunter, and Death Note, accompanied by exclusive channels and box sets from Crunchyroll including Black Clover. Sports coverage spans football, hockey, motorsports, golf, boxing, and soccer through networks and organizations such as FOX Sports, NASCAR, NBC Sports Now, and the UFC.

Additionally, the app includes national, local, and international news and weather coverage via NBC News Now, Fox Weather, and LiveNOW from FOX. Creator and specialty programming features content like Hot Ones, Spotify’s The Ringer, Futcrunch, Idle Mode, gaming, esports, documentaries, podcasts, and the exclusive eCLUTCH programming.

Sony has stated that the platform will continue to evolve over time with regularly refreshed programming, new channels, and additional content. Furthermore, the company plans to expand the Live TV on PS5 experience to Canada and is exploring potential availability in additional regions in the future, though programming availability may vary by local TV markets.
