Roblox executive Anupam Singh showcased a new technology called Roblox Reality during RDC 2026. The new video world model layers directly over the Roblox Engine to provide photorealistic environmental changes, such as dynamic weather and lighting updates, without altering the underlying code.

During the demonstration, Singh displayed how the technology can instantly add the Northern Lights to a background sky or convert a blocky world into a medieval theme. "We didn't change the code. We didn't change objects. I can literally take a reference image here, and I can make it sunny, and I can continue playing the game," Singh explained. Players can continue moving around the environment while mountains, clouds, and lighting shift accordingly.

The system also handles complex physics and particle transitions. Singh highlighted the technical difficulty of rendering water, noting that the engine can now simulate water droplets parting in puddles and dripping from ferris wheel cabins during weather shifts. Additionally, the update introduces autonomous non-playing character technology designed to add hundreds of intelligent characters to worlds for engagement and testing.

Roblox aims to give both players and creators expanded tools to easily alter environments on the fly. The demonstration concluded by toggling the dynamic environment back to sunny weather without interrupting gameplay or requiring manual code updates.
