Roblox has reported that its educational co-play experience, Roblox Family Zone, has accumulated 11 million plays since launching on June 18. The milestone arrives as the user-generated content platform enters its 20th year and continues to address ongoing child safety concerns and multiple lawsuits from families alleging inadequate protection against predators.

During a keynote address, a young man wearing a shirt that read Kids deserve better rushed the stage and yelled that users deserve better before being removed by security. While the stunt brought attention to allegations regarding child safety on the platform, Roblox executives emphasized that safety remains a top priority. Tami Bhaumik, vice president of civility at Roblox, stated that the company introduced 145 safety features in 2025.

Roblox Family Zone was created to bridge the education gap between parents and children through a series of mini games available in 15 languages. The virtual hub is designed for a parent and one child to play cooperatively. Players are guided by an antelope creature named Nerba, and children often act as teachers to help parents navigate basic controls, platform features, and parental controls. The experience also offers free avatar items to incentivize participation.

According to Genevieve Johnson of the Roblox civility team, the experience teaches digital literacy skills, how to handle online threats, and how to set daily play limits or restrict chat functions. Content also warns users about scams and side deals promising free Robux. Roblox plans to introduce additional content next year, including a mental health model developed in collaboration with Koko Cares to assist children dealing with bullying.

In addition to Family Zone, Roblox utilizes other measures such as Facial Age Estimation, which requires users to scan their face to access chat functions. Despite these initiatives, lawyers representing families have filed numerous lawsuits against Roblox, arguing that the company has not done enough to protect young users on the platform.
