Robert Bogue Says He Auditioned Over 60 Times for Rockstar Without Response

Long‑time Rockstar actor Robert Bogue reveals he tried more than 60 auditions for the developer, including for GTA VI, but received no feedback, leaving him disappointed after previous successful collaborations.

Robert Bogue, an actor who has voiced characters in several Rockstar titles, including Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony, Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Revolver, has spoken out about his recent experience with the famed developer. After years of working with Rockstar and seeing familiar faces like the actors for Michael and Franklin appear in GTA Online updates, Bogue attempted to rejoin the team for Grand Theft Auto VI. He auditioned more than 60 times, seeking any role—major or minor—but never heard back. I'm a little disappointed with Rockstar. I had an amazing experience working with them before. Some of the producers I worked with are still there, and so are several directors whom I have a great deal of respect for. I really wanted to be part of GTA 6, but they turned me down, he said in an Instagram comment that was later reposted on Twitter and picked up by GamesRadar.

Bogue explained that his lack of response was especially puzzling given his willingness to accept any part. I didn't care how big the role was; I just wanted to be in the game. I didn't get any of them, and I never even heard back about a single one. Honestly, that was pretty discouraging. At one point, I even started wondering if they had some kind of unofficial policy against bringing back the same actors. Because being rejected that many times and not even landing a small role just didn't make sense to me, he added.

Recent Rockstar releases have highlighted returning voice talent, with Michael and Franklin’s actors making cameo appearances in GTA Online and Red Dead Redemption 2 actors gaining visibility at conventions. Bogue notes that even when actors are not featured in new titles, they still receive recognition for their roles across the industry. His experience underscores a growing tension between long‑time talent and the developer’s current casting approach, leaving fans and industry observers alike pondering the future of veteran voice work at Rockstar.
