Sony Releases PS5 Firmware 26.06-14.00.00 With Default PSSR Enhancement and New Voice Chat Features

Sony has begun rolling out PS5 system software version 26.06-14.00.00 to all PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles. The update should reach most devices within the next 24 hours.

The most notable change for PS5 Pro owners is that the "Enhance PSSR Image Quality" setting is now turned on by default. Sony states, "We've turned on Enhance PSSR Image Quality as a default setting. When you update the system software, this setting automatically turns on." The enhanced PSSR will be applied even to games that only supported the previous version, delivering a sharper image. Users who prefer the original behavior can disable the option in Settings, Screen and Video, Video Output.

Voice chat sessions now display a speaker indicator. According to the patch notes, "You can now see who's speaking while you're in a voice chat. To show the speaker indicator, go to the voice chat card in the control centre. Select More > Display Who's Speaking and turn on Display Names. To choose where the speaker indicator appears on your screen, select Position."

The Welcome Hub receives a new Community Activity widget with two views. Trending Now shows ten multiplayer games or modes that are surging in popularity, highlighting new releases or major content updates. Top 10 lists the ten most popular games in the player's country or region over the past week.

Bluetooth handling has been altered for certain regions. The notes explain, "If you go to Settings > Accessories > General > Advanced Settings and select Turn Off Bluetooth, your console does not enter rest mode and HDMI Device Link does not function. The Turn Off Bluetooth function is for managing controller connections at esports venues and similar locations. Do not use this feature for any other purpose."

Finally, Sony says it has "improved system software performance and stability," a standard but welcome refinement for all users.
