Gameplay Screenshot From Ubisoft's Canceled Project U Leaks Online
A screenshot of Ubisoft's canceled PvE game Project U has surfaced online, showing what seven years of development produced before the project was scrapped in early 2026.

A gameplay screenshot from Ubisoft's canceled game Project U has leaked online, offering a glimpse at the title that spent roughly seven years in development before being shelved in early 2026.
The image was shared by X user Kran, who questioned whether posting the screenshot would violate a non-disclosure agreement given that the project had been canceled.
Project U was designed as a PvE game where ten teams of four would battle increasingly difficult enemies across multiple map zones. According to Insider Gaming, playtesters found the game enjoyable, but Ubisoft struggled to identify what would drive long-term replayability.
The project underwent major restructuring in late 2024 as Ubisoft explored whether PvE titles could still succeed commercially. Despite those efforts, the publisher could not identify the fun factor needed to move forward and ultimately canceled the project.
Originally codenamed Pathfinder, Project U faced persistent challenges throughout development. Early versions of the game reused Ghost Recon Wildlands' map to reduce development time and costs. Later iterations drew enemy design inspiration from Guerrilla Games' Horizon series in an attempt to give players additional reasons to engage with the title.
Ubisoft sources described Project U as a constant headache for developers, citing a lack of overall direction and vision as contributing factors to its cancellation. The total development cost remains unknown.
An intro cinematic for the game leaked online in 2025, which Ubisoft subsequently removed via DMCA takedown.
