PlatinumGames boss says he wants to expand Bayonetta as Stellar Blade director calls the series indispensable

PlatinumGames president Atsushi Inaba has said he still wants to expand the Bayonetta character and broaden her world. He did not confirm a new game, but Famitsu reports that he admitted the desire during a Tokyo Game Show appearance with Shift Up CEO and Stellar Blade director Kim Hyung-tae.

The meeting was tied to a crossover that brings four Bayonetta-themed costumes to Stellar Blade Complete Edition on Switch 2 this November. Kim used the moment to praise the series, calling Bayonetta "an indispensable work in my life" and naming it one of his three favourite games. The source notes that this quote came via machine-translation.

Kim also said he had to hold back while designing his own Bayonetta-inspired "Black Dress" costume so it would not go too far. He added, half-joking, that he would like to design characters for the next Bayonetta entry himself. Asked directly about that next entry, Inaba declined to give specifics and told Famitsu only to wait and see.

The comment lands after a difficult stretch for the franchise. Series creator Hideki Kamiya left Platinum in October 2023, saying at the time that he had envisioned Bayonetta as a nine-part saga he may now take "to the grave" with him. Bayonetta 3 director Yusuke Miyata has also since departed.

Any future Bayonetta project would also face a major voice-cast change. The series recently lost Bayonetta's Japanese voice actress Atsuko Tanaka, who died in August 2024 aged 61.
