Ocarina of Time Remake on Switch 2 Adds Manual Jumping, Dashing, and Modern Camera Controls

Nintendo has offered an in-depth look at the upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2, revealing significant gameplay enhancements alongside its overhauled visuals. During the September 2026 40th Anniversary Zelda Direct, developer presentations detailed how classic mechanics are being modernized for contemporary hardware, providing players with greater control over Link's movement across Hyrule.

Among the most notable changes highlighted during the official gameplay demonstration by Mr. Anouma is the inclusion of an on-demand jump. In the original Nintendo 64 release, Link would automatically leap whenever he reached a ledge. The Switch 2 version changes this by allowing players to jump manually with the press of a button. Additionally, a new dash mechanic has been implemented: players can now sprint by performing a roll and holding down the 'A' button, offering faster traversal when exploring the world or backtracking through familiar areas.

Complementing these movement updates, the remake also introduces modern camera controls. Moving away from the fixed angles of the original title, the camera now functions similarly to Link's more recent modern outings. These structural changes are expected to alter the flow of gameplay significantly, potentially opening up new strategies for speedrunners and explorers alike.

The title is officially scheduled to launch on November 5th, 2026. Alongside the physical and digital software releases, Nintendo is rolling out special 40th Anniversary hardware and accessories, including a themed Switch 2 console and Pro Controller arriving in late October, followed by Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo figures later in 2027.
