No Man's Sky Unveils Cosmos Update, Overhauling Space Exploration With Bases, Stations, and Salvageable Hulks

Hello Games has unveiled its latest update for No Man's Sky, titled 'Cosmos'. Available as a free download for all players, this major addition to the space exploration and survival game focuses heavily on overhauling deep space with numerous gameplay additions.

Among the biggest features introduced in the Cosmos update is a brand-new Star Map. Unlike the traditional Galactic Map, the Star Map hones in specifically on the player's current star system to highlight local planets, space stations, and nearby points of interest. Space exploration is further expanded with the addition of vast floating constructs known as Hulks. Players can use a gravity gun to tear off chunks of metal from these wrecks for resources, though taking too much can trigger a dangerous meltdown and massive explosion.

The update also brings space-bound outposts—mini space stations that allow players to trade with alien lifeforms, undertake quests, and learn more about their current system. Additionally, players can discover Bio-wrecks, which are condemned facilities infested with hazardous organic entities. For resource gathering, newly added asteroid belts offer fresh opportunities, with some asteroids growing large enough to land on and even support base construction.

Base-building is no longer restricted to planet surfaces in No Man's Sky. The Cosmos update allows players to construct custom outposts out in the void. Furthermore, players with enough resources can now purchase and own space stations, outfitting them with internal and external decorations to create a personalized hub.

To encourage cooperative play, Hello Games has introduced alliances, enabling players to pool resources and work together. For the daring, it is now even possible to fly directly toward a system's star. Finally, the update kicks off a new expedition titled 'Our Journey Continues!', designed to chart the game's extensive update history alongside developer commentary and insights.
