Nintendo Schedules Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Remake Close to Grand Theft Auto VI

While major publishers shuffle their release schedules to avoid Grand Theft Auto VI, Nintendo has announced that its upcoming Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for the Switch 2 will launch on November 5th.

While virtually every major publisher across the video game industry has shifted release dates or delayed titles to avoid the massive market vacuum created by Rockstar's upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI, Nintendo is charting a different course. During a recent 30-minute showcase celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Legend of Zelda franchise, Nintendo revealed that the upcoming Switch 2 remake of Ocarina of Time is slated for a November 5th release, just two weeks before Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on November 19th.

The announcement stands in stark contrast to the rest of the industry. The upcoming launch of Rockstar's blockbuster has triggered a seismic shift in the video game calendar, with major publishers clearing out the later months of the year. September has already seen a heavy lineup of launches, including Star Wars Zero Company, The Blood of Dawnwalker, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword, alongside upcoming titles like Marvel’s Wolverine, Control Resonant, and a remastered Witcher 3. Aside from a few indie games, Ocarina of Time stands out as the only major non-port release scheduled for November.

Although direct platform competition is limited—since Ocarina of Time is a Switch 2 exclusive while Grand Theft Auto VI targets PlayStation 5 and Xbox platforms—both franchises will contend for major cultural mindshare. Analysts note that both Nintendo and Rockstar share a history of following their own paths rather than adhering to industry trends, affording them the unique confidence to operate largely outside the pressures of traditional release windows.
