Marvel's Wolverine Hits 7th on US PlayStation Engagement Chart in Launch Week
Insomniac's single-player action game cracked the top 10 on Circana's engagement tracker for the week ending September 19, 2026, the only story-driven game among live service titles.
Marvel's Wolverine placed 7th on Circana's US PlayStation engagement chart for its launch week, marking an unusual feat for a single-player game in a chart typically dominated by live service titles.
Insomniac Games developed the title and Sony Interactive Entertainment published it for PS5 on September 15, 2026. The engagement data tracked by Circana covers the game's first five days on the market. Players averaged 14.2 hours with Wolverine during launch week, placing it inside the top 20 for average playtime, below NBA 2K27's leading 23.1 hours per player.
Wolverine was the only story-driven single-player game in the top 10. The chart remains dominated by live service games like Fortnite and Call of Duty, which maintain engagement through regular content updates. Circana's Player Engagement Tracker ranks games by weekly player count rather than sales, a distinction that matters for understanding Wolverine's strong debut.
Third-party sales estimates suggest around 3 million units sold, though Alinea Analytics initially estimated 1.9 million copies in the first three days. Sony has not confirmed any figures and is expected to share official numbers in its November earnings report.
Single-player games typically fall off engagement charts quickly once players complete the story, and whether Wolverine sustains its position depends on player retention over the coming weeks. The launch also included a Marvel's Wolverine Limited Edition PS5 console and controller, separate from software sales figures.
Wolverine's performance in Japan has been weaker, falling behind Insomniac's earlier Marvel's Spider-Man games, which share a universe with this title. Critical reception has been mixed, with Metacritic scoring the game 77 out of 100 and 69 percent of OpenCritic critics recommending it. Reviewers praised combat and visuals but cited repetitive gameplay and story issues.
