Marvel's Wolverine scent trails toned down in hotfix as Insomniac explores toggleable options
Insomniac Games has patched Marvel's Wolverine to reduce the intensity of the game's scent trail visuals following player complaints. The studio is also considering adding toggleable options for the feature in a future update.

Insomniac Games has released a hotfix for Marvel's Wolverine that reduces the intensity of the game's scent trails, which guide players toward objectives. The patch addresses widespread player criticism about the feature, often called a "fart trail" in online circles.
The scent trail feature had become a focal point of fan mockery since the game's release. Combined with frequent voice lines and on-screen markers, the guidance system drew comparisons to design patterns like the yellow paint in Resident Evil or Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, with players arguing that the overbearing directions undermine exploration and can feel condescending.
According to Insomniac's patch notes, "This hotfix adjusts the presentation of the Scent Trails and Audio Sense indicators, including reduced opacity to make these visuals less intense." The studio is evaluating further improvements. "Our team continues to evaluate ways to further improve Senses in the game, including exploring toggleable options for a future update," the developer stated, though no timeline was provided for such an update.
The hotfix also addressed technical issues, squashing common crashes reported by a small percentage of players since launch. Insomniac's community director James Stevenson previously indicated the team has been "cooking hard" in response to player feedback, signaling more updates to follow.
