Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back Announced for PS5 in 2027
Dragami Games and Nada Holdings have officially revealed Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back, a direct sequel to the cult PS3 action game. The PS5 exclusive launches in 2027 with Juliet Starling returning to face new threats in a rebuilt San Romero.
Dragami Games and Nada Holdings have officially announced Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back for PlayStation 5, with a 2027 release planned. The sequel was revealed at Tokyo Game Show 2026 with playable footage shown to attendees.
Juliet Starling returns as the protagonist in a rebuilt San Romero, now transformed into "Jaredwood," a sprawling metropolis built around the film industry. According to the official description, "When a mysterious director traps her inside his twisted zombie movie, Juliet must fight alongside her allies, uncover the conspiracy behind the chaos, and stop a new threat posed by the Corrupted Realm zombies."
The sequel is being developed by JP Universe, a studio founded in 2022 by Hajime Tabata, the director of Final Fantasy XV. While original creator Suda51 and writer James Gunn are not involved, the project does bring back Masahiro Yuki, who co-produced and co-wrote the original Lollipop Chainsaw alongside Gunn. Character designer NekoshowguN is also returning for the sequel.
Early gameplay footage showed Juliet using her signature chainsaw and cheerleading moves to combat undead enemies. The demo featured roller skates as a new mobility option, allowing faster movement around the environment. One sequence showed a boss fight against an enemy called Zorbie on a candy pink dance floor, where players punch flying zombie heads to launch them back at the boss.
Hands-on impressions from preview events noted that the early build is very unfinished, with rough animations, camera issues, and missing sound effects in some demonstrations. The game's comic book-style UI elements and humour are returning from the original, but developers acknowledge significant work remains before launch.
The original Lollipop Chainsaw released in 2012 for PS3 and Xbox 360. Dragami Games previously revived the franchise with Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, a remake that launched in September 2024 across multiple platforms and later appeared on Switch 2 in May 2026.
Currently, no other platforms beyond PS5 have been announced for Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back.
