Just Hoops 2.0 Overhauls Basketball VR With Hand Tracking and Accessibility Options

Just Hoops rolled out version 2.0 this week, a significant update developed over the past year in collaboration with Meta. The refresh emphasizes hand tracking and accessibility, aligning with Meta's push toward controller-free VR following the announcement of the Meta VR Glasses.

The core addition is improved hand tracking with multiple shooting methods. Natural Shot lets you physically grab the ball with your hands and shoot at the hoop, with optional assists to make learning the motion easier. Hand Tracking Grab Assist uses a pinch gesture to grab the ball, Controller Grab Assist maps grabbing to a button, and Aim Assist guides shots toward the hoop. The scoring system rewards up to eight points per basket depending on which assists you use, encouraging players to master unassisted shooting.

Pointer Shot offers a simpler alternative where you aim with your hand and shoot with a gesture, awarding two points per basket. This mode suits casual and seated players who prefer a more relaxed experience.

Multiplayer now supports online matchmaking or private rooms for up to four players. A new Trickshots mode uses mixed reality to turn your real environment into a basketball playground, letting you place hoops and obstacles around your room to create custom shots.

The update introduces Zen Mode, which removes timers so you can practice at your own pace without scoring pressure. A redesigned menu interface and clearer progression path help new players get oriented, while returning players have fresh objectives to pursue. The 2.0 update also adds a 1970s-inspired retro environment, more dynamic levels, and updated tutorials.

Just Hoops 2.0 is available now on Meta Quest. The status of these features for the Steam version remains unclear.
