Insomniac denies generative AI in Wolverine after fans spot glitchy bathroom sign
Insomniac community director James Stevenson clarified that a bizarrely rendered restroom sign in Marvel's Wolverine was caused by a UV map bug, not AI generation. The developer confirmed no AI-generated assets appear in the game.

Insomniac has denied using generative AI in Marvel's Wolverine after fans spotted a strangely distorted restroom sign in the game and shared screenshots on social media.
Community director James Stevenson addressed the speculation on X/Twitter, attributing the malformed symbol to a technical issue. "No. This is a UV map bug and we have a fix coming," Stevenson wrote. "There are no AI generated assets in Marvel's Wolverine."
The clarification came as some players speculated the odd appearance suggested AI involvement. Stevenson's response prompted discussion about whether a UV mapping error could produce such a result, with some commenters offering to create replacement assets for the developer.
Stevenson also responded to reports of other launch issues affecting gameplay stability. "They are tied to other systems in places and with so many people playing we have to be deliberate in testing to not introduce new bugs or break people. Thank you for patience," he said regarding Scent Trailers and Audio Sense indicators that were causing crashes.
The denial comes as generative AI use remains a contentious topic in game development. Other studios including Level-5, Krafton, Square Enix, and EA have publicly invested in AI technology.
