Marvel's Wolverine faces mounting online criticism before its release, with gamers questioning Insomniac's portrayal of Logan, Jean Grey, and other X-Men characters in what the studio describes as a more linear take on its superhero formula. Some criticism centers on gameplay design choices and the game's status as a PlayStation exclusive.

The backlash has prompted James Stevenson, Insomniac's community and marketing director, to reconsider his philosophy on social media engagement. In a post on X, Stevenson described the platform's algorithm as amplifying negativity in ways he finds concerning. "I think the wild way this algorithm amplifies and forces negativity upon you has me reconsidering my philosophy of telling devs to look or post here. It's a relentless onslaught that I cannot believe is good for anyone's mental health nor representative," Stevenson wrote.

Stevenson's comments suggest the intensity of online discourse around the game has affected how leadership thinks about developer presence on social platforms. While some criticism focuses on creative choices in the game itself, much of the online response appears driven by broader conversation cycles that can overshadow individual titles, regardless of their quality.
