Hunter’s Moon Brings Historical Folk-Horror to PS5 on October 26

Twin Swans' first-person narrative horror game drops players into a 17th-century English village where an accused witch must survive one fateful night.

Twin Swans has announced Hunter’s Moon, a first-person historical folk-horror game set to launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on October 26, 2026 (October 25 in North America). The title places players in the role of Lilith Thorne, a woman accused of witchcraft who must evade capture throughout a single night in a 17th-century rural English village.

Drawing inspiration from the real-life witch hunts led by figures such as Matthew Hopkins—who styled himself “the Witchfinder General” in 1644 and published The Discovery of Witches in 1647—the game grounds its narrative in documented historical events. Players navigate through forests, moors, and village streets while avoiding three pursuers: the Witchfinder General, a local magistrate, and a huntsman.

A key gameplay feature is the immersive eavesdropping mechanic, allowing players to listen at doors and windows to gather useful information from over 100 fully voice-acted characters. This system reflects the developer’s interest in immersive theatre and historical realism, aiming to let players uncover the stories of villagers worn down by war and misfortune.

The game’s visual style combines muted colors with stylized, almost stop-motion animation, creating a presentation described as both pleasant and unsettling. According to the PlayStation Blog, the narrative explores themes of fear, belief, and persecution, asking players to consider whether the truest horror lies not in magic or monsters, but in human behavior itself.

Hunter’s Moon is the debut title from Twin Swans, an independent studio founded by former Crows Crows Crows producer Annie Weinmann. The team includes developers with prior credits on titles like The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Signalis. The game is currently available to wishlist on the PlayStation Store ahead of its release.
