GTA 6 Targeting 30fps on PS5, Undecided on Performance Mode

Grand Theft Auto VI is currently targeting 30fps on PlayStation 5 consoles, with developer Rockstar uncertain regarding a potential performance mode.

Grand Theft Auto VI is currently targeting a 30 frames-per-second frame rate on standard PlayStation 5 hardware, according to reports stemming from a recent developer visit. Rockstar remains undecided on whether a performance mode will be added at launch or implemented later.

Confirmation regarding the target frame rate came via YouTuber Davy Jones, who visited the developer's offices in Edinburgh alongside other influencers. Jones reportedly obtained confirmation directly from lead developer and co-director Rob Nelson that the title is targeting 30fps across consoles. Nelson left the door open regarding potential future improvements, noting that he would need to consult the technical team to determine if a 60fps option might be feasible at launch or further down the line.

The targeting of 30fps is also expected to apply to the PlayStation 5 Pro. Although the Pro model features a stronger GPU than the base system, it is reportedly unlikely to house sufficient central processing unit power to double the frame rate given the density of the open-world environment.
