Final Fantasy, Persona Veterans Announce Turn-Based JRPG Eternal Anima for PS5

Eternal Anima, a new turn-based JRPG developed by veterans from the Final Fantasy and Persona franchises, has been announced for PlayStation 5 with a planned release in March 2027. The game was first teased as 'Project Life is RPG' in 2023 before its official reveal.

The development team includes director Katsuhisa Higuchi, known for his work on the Final Fantasy series and Chrono Trigger, story concept writer Keisuke Makino, who contributed to Persona 5 and Metaphor: ReFantazio, and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima, recognized for his involvement in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. Their collective experience brings a strong pedigree to the project.

Eternal Anima centers around time travel, following protagonist Wade as he attempts to correct present-day wrongs by accessing memories from the past. The time-travel mechanic extends into combat, where Wade's psychic abilities allow players to glimpse future enemy actions, enabling strategic counterplay. Battles are turn-based with an emphasis on tactical depth.

The game features a distinctive art style that draws inspiration from classic Japanese RPGs. However, its March 4, 2027 launch date places it in a competitive release window, raising questions about its market positioning. The title has generated interest among fans of traditional JRPGs.
