Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 9th, bringing the base game and new expansion together in a single package. Director Kento Kinoshita and producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi discussed the port and expansion details in an interview at Gamescom 2026.

The expansion's new campaign is set in a region called Norgan and serves as a prologue to the main Dark Arisen storyline. Most players will complete it in 15 to 20 hours, with an additional five or more hours available for those exploring side content and taking indirect routes. The name Dark Arisen carries significance to the story itself, according to Kinoshita, echoing the original Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen subtitle.

Hard Mode arrives as a free update for the base game on October 9th alongside the DLC. Players can start a new game in Hard Mode or switch existing save files to the difficulty, but switching back to normal mode requires completing a full playthrough first. Kinoshita emphasized the commitment: "just make sure you really want it if you're going to switch it on."

Rather than adding new vocations, Capcom is expanding strategic depth through existing classes. The weapon skill layout increases from four to six slots as a free update to the base game, available on all platforms. Dark Arisen adds new skills and higher-level versions of existing abilities across vocations. "We felt that giving everyone almost the feeling like every vocation feels new or feels fresh was a better way to expand the game," Hirabayashi explained.

Development of Dark Arisen began after a six-month post-launch support period for Dragon's Dogma 2. Capcom decided to revisit the world and create an expansion rather than move directly to a sequel. Switch 2 support was planned from the project's start. The team credits the internally developed RE Engine and shared knowledge across Capcom's titles, including Resident Evil games, for streamlining the porting process.

The Switch 2 version targets the same gameplay experience across all platforms. Performance optimization continues through launch, with the non-final Gamescom demo already maintaining above 30 frames per second. Capcom is working to improve performance further before release.
