Diablo 5 Will Feature More Launch Classes Than Any Previous Entry in the Franchise
Blizzard has revealed that Diablo 5 will launch with a record number of classes, aiming for nine or ten options available on day one.

Diablo 5 is set to launch with more classes than any other game in the franchise, according to game director Joe Shely. Speaking during a BlizzCon 2026 panel following the game's surprise reveal and Spring 2029 release window, Shely stated that the upcoming title will feature more classes total than any previous Diablo game at ship. Blizzard is aiming for nine or ten classes at launch, depending on how the studio counts Diablo 4's newly revealed Amazon class.
During the panel, Blizzard showcased three of the classes coming to Diablo 5: the Monk, the Demon Hunter, and a brand-new addition called the Plague Knight. Shely explained that having a larger roster allows the team to deliver a mix of familiar and new gameplay experiences. For example, returning players will find a new representation of the Demon Hunter utilizing twin crossbows to pay off nostalgia while offering fresh mechanics alongside entirely new options like the Plague Knight.
With development on Diablo 5 underway, Blizzard confirmed that Diablo 4 will not receive new expansions moving forward. However, Diablo 4 will continue to receive seasonal updates. The upcoming Season of Hell's Legacy launches on September 15 and brings back the iconic Horadrim member Deckard Cain, who will task players with confronting echoes of the Prime Evils, including Diablo.
