Crazy Taxi: World Tour Closed Network Test Offers First Look at Online Multiplayer Modes
SEGA recently hosted a closed network test for Crazy Taxi: World Tour, giving players a chance to try out two online multiplayer modes ahead of the game's planned 2027 release.

SEGA recently hosted a closed network test for its upcoming arcade driving game, Crazy Taxi: World Tour. The test offered an early look at how the modern revival of the classic franchise is shaping up, particularly regarding its handling and online features. Players reported that the game successfully recaptures the pace, steering feel, rapid acceleration, and forgiving collisions of the original series.
While the single-player mode has been shown previously, the network test granted access to two distinct online multiplayer modes named Pickup Race and Cops 'N' Cabbies. Pickup Race functions as a six-player mode where participants compete to earn the highest amount of cash by picking up and dropping off as many customers as possible within a set time limit. Cops 'N' Cabbies divides players into two opposing teams. Cabbies earn cash by transporting passengers, while cops attempt to stop them from meeting a cumulative quota by ramming into them until their health bars are depleted and they are sent to jail.
Reviewers noted that these online modes carry a specific charm reminiscent of token multiplayer additions from the PlayStation 3 era, such as those found in games like BioShock 2 and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Despite being an early network test, participants reported smooth matchmaking without noticeable latency issues. Crazy Taxi: World Tour is currently scheduled for release in 2027.
