Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Port Tops US Sales Charts in July 2026, Outselling Every Other Game by Dollar Revenue

Circana's July 2026 report reveals Activision's shadow-dropped Black Ops ports dominated US game sales, with the 14-year-old Black Ops 2 leading the entire market.

Circana's latest monthly US sales report has confirmed that Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 port for PS4 and PS5 was July 2026's best-selling game overall, ranked by dollar sales. The port, which shadowdropped on July 9 alongside the original Call of Duty: Black Ops, outperformed every other title on the chart despite being a 14-year-old game with minimal technical or visual upgrades.

The Black Ops 1 port landed at No. 5 on the monthly chart. Both titles were priced at $40, with a discounted rate of $20 available through August 6 for PS Plus subscribers. According to industry analyst Rhys Elliott, the two ports combined to sell more than 11 million copies and generated over $430 million in revenue. Elliott noted that Activision spent essentially nothing on marketing and faces no ongoing development costs, making the ports extraordinarily profitable.

The strong performance was driven in part by pent-up demand. Previously, the only way to play either Black Ops title on a PlayStation console was to track down a PS3, since neither game was ever made available through backwards compatibility on PS4 or PS5. Elliott estimated that Sony's 30% platform cut of the $430 million amounts to roughly $130 million for hosting the titles.

Circana also noted that EA Sports College Football 27, which ranked No. 2 for July, would have claimed the top spot if its sales had been combined with the EA Sports MVP Bundle, which includes CFB 27 and Madden 27. The rest of the July 2026 top 10 included Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, Halo: Campaign Evolved, Splatoon Raiders, Echoes of Aincurd: Sword Art Online, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, and 007 First Light.
