Amazon, Twitch Face Class Action Lawsuit Over Generative AI Training

Amazon and Twitch are currently facing a class action lawsuit over allegations that the companies utilized content creators' footage to train generative AI models. According to reports, the legal complaint was filed on Thursday, August 20, 2026, by plaintiff Warren Pandiscia. The lawsuit claims that in an effort to acquire artificial intelligence training data at an unprecedented rate, Amazon and Twitch utilized Twitch streams and videos instead of seeking permission or negotiating lawful licenses to train these models.

According to the filed complaint via Courthouse News, Pandiscia stated that by design, the defendants never obtain—and their systems are incapable of obtaining—the consent of all parties to the communications they capture. Furthermore, the complaint alleges that content creators will never be able to recover the intellectual property that was unlawfully copied and used to train the artificial intelligence models.

The legal action arrives shortly after Twitch introduced an opt-out setting designed to let streamers stop their channel content from being used to train Amazon’s generative AI models. Defending the implementation of this setting, Twitch Chief Product Officer Mike Minton remarked that if the feature were opt-in instead of opt-out, nobody would opt in.
