Xbox App Support Ending on 2020 Samsung Smart TVs November 3
Microsoft is discontinuing Xbox app support on 2020 Samsung Smart TVs starting November 3, 2026, citing incompatibility with the TV's operating system following Xbox Cloud Gaming technology updates.
Xbox app support is ending on 2020 Samsung Smart TVs effective November 3, 2026. Microsoft notified affected users that upcoming changes to Xbox Cloud Gaming are incompatible with the operating system on those models.
In the notification sent to accounts that previously used the Xbox app on 2020 Samsung TVs, Microsoft explained the reason for the change. "Starting 3 November, the XBOX app will no longer be supported on 2020 Samsung Smart TVs as updates to the technology that powers XBOX Cloud Gaming are no longer compatible with the operating system version available on these models," the company stated in the email.
The notification does not specify which technology change or OS limitation prevents continued support. Microsoft has not confirmed whether the move relates to the redesigned Xbox Cloud interface or another infrastructure update. The company's public compatibility documentation remains limited on this point.
Players with affected TVs have several alternatives. Xbox recommends upgrading to newer Samsung Smart TVs from 2021 onward that support the app, or using other compatible devices including PCs, smartphones, tablets, Xbox consoles, select Amazon Fire TV devices, and compatible LG TVs. External streaming devices offer another option for owners unwilling to replace their TV.
The app retirement coincides with other Xbox Cloud Gaming changes arriving in November. Game Pass will introduce monthly cloud gaming allowances, with Essential including five hours, Premium 10 hours, and Ultimate 15 hours of streaming per month. Additional playtime will be available for purchase.
