007 First Light Delayed to March 2027 on Switch 2, IO Interactive Details Performance Priorities

IO Interactive's technical producer Cristina Vega explains the third delay for the James Bond game, citing development needs and a new rendering system. The team is targeting stable 30fps on Switch 2 while making selective visual compromises.

007 First Light is delayed again. The James Bond spy thriller, originally targeting a Summer 2026 release on Switch 2, will now arrive in March 2027. This marks the third delay for the Switch 2 version of the game.

IO Interactive technical producer Cristina Vega addressed the postponement in an interview with Inven Global, stating that "While being delayed for a third time is certainly disappointing news for fans, this decision was also made for their benefit." The studio needed time to recover after an extended development push and to implement a new rendering system called Meshnets, combined with requests from the marketing team.

Vega expressed confidence about the overall porting effort. "The Switch 2 porting work is going very well," she said. The team compared footage from March with summer builds and saw substantial progress. She highlighted that achieving stable 30fps remains the team's "highest priority." Early experiments with variable frame rates, including running cinematic scenes at different rates, ultimately proved ineffective.

The port does require visual adjustments. "Some compromises are inevitable," Vega acknowledged, but emphasized that the team "made those choices in areas that aren't very crucial to players." NPC and enemy counts remain unchanged from the original version. Instead, the team reduced the quality of select background assets and chose "technical solutions instead of radical compromises" to maintain performance.

Nintendo Life's footage from Gamescom showed the Switch 2 version running smoothly, with the publication noting they came away "pleasantly impressed" by what they saw.
