Xbox Is Testing Console History Startup Animations and New Features for Insiders

Microsoft has announced a new round of console features currently rolling out for testing among Xbox Insiders. Among the standout additions are nostalgic customization options, giving players the ability to choose custom boot animations inspired by past console generations. Testers can select from the original Xbox One boot screen, the Xbox One X startup animation, the original Xbox Series X and S boot, and a new "we are Xbox" boot animation. However, Microsoft notes that the retro startup options will not include the original Xbox or Xbox 360 boot sequences, focusing strictly on Xbox One and newer platforms.

Alongside the historical startup animations, the Insider build introduces several quality-of-life updates aimed at navigation, streaming, and audio. A brand-new local search feature is being integrated to help players easily find specific games and achievements within large lists. Working alongside existing filters and sorting options, local search operates inside "My games & apps," official club achievement lists, and user profile achievement history.

Remote Play is also receiving a substantial upgrade, bringing support for up to 1440p resolution alongside improved bitrates specifically on Xbox Series X and S consoles. Furthermore, Xbox Cloud Gaming users gain the ability to allow background game downloads to continue while actively streaming titles, though downloads will automatically throttle as needed.

Finally, audio enhancements arrive in the form of Voice Clarity for Xbox Series X and S owners. Functioning similarly to the Windows 11 feature, Voice Clarity is designed to reduce everyday background noise and eliminate echo. The feature will be enabled by default in party chat and in the majority of games released since 2020, rounding out a robust testing package for early adopters.
