Xbox CEO Plays Coy About Whether The Elder Scrolls 6 Will Skip PlayStation

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma recently discussed the role of platform exclusives during an appearance at Gamescom, emphasizing that every platform needs some form of exclusive content to grow as Microsoft continues to expand its reach. When pressed by the BBC about whether making The Elder Scrolls 6 exclusive to Xbox on console is a priority, Sharma smiled and remarked that it is a beautiful game, while remaining coy on its final platform destination.

Sharma recently visited developers at Bethesda to check on the game's progress. Her visit also drew protestors addressing recent layoffs affecting thousands of Xbox developers, including staff working on The Elder Scrolls 6. These cuts and other decisions have left Bethesda employees facing low morale and concerns about further delays. The Elder Scrolls 6 was initially announced in 2018 without confirmed platform details. Microsoft subsequently acquired Bethesda in 2021, and although FTC court documents indicated the title was not planned for the PlayStation 5, no official release date or definitive platform confirmation has been provided.

Regarding broader exclusivity strategies, Microsoft has stated it will honor existing multiplatform agreements for previously announced games. Meanwhile, titles like Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution have been confirmed as console exclusives for Xbox. Former Xbox executive Phil Spencer previously suggested that bringing franchises like The Elder Scrolls 6 to Xbox meant delivering a complete package rather than punishing rival systems, though leadership has shifted following his departure earlier this year under Asha Sharma's current tenure.
