A report from Fortune claims Xbox CEO Asha Sharma is planning a major overhaul of the Xbox Game Pass service, moving it toward a tiered structure that would let players choose features individually.

The proposed changes reportedly include options for cloud gaming, multiplayer access, and add-ons for console-only games. This follows earlier rumors from September suggesting Microsoft might offer Game Pass tiers with or without ads, and that new Microsoft titles may no longer launch into Game Pass on day one.

Sharma has previously stated that Game Pass was a big bet that did not pay off, and that she plans to evolve it into a more flexible system. She has already made changes such as removing new Call of Duty titles from the program and lowering the price. Her team is also reportedly planning to charge users for additional cloud-gaming time.

The Fortune report also mentions plans for more layoffs at Xbox in October and January 2027, with over 3,000 jobs expected to be cut as part of a broader reset. Additionally, the report suggests Microsoft is considering launching a new Xbox handheld in 2027 and a new console in 2028, potentially priced up to $1,800.

Several Xbox employees have reportedly seen internal presentations discussing the possibility of the company being sold or spun off.
