Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has acknowledged the competitive dynamic between Xbox and PlayStation while suggesting the two can maintain a collaborative relationship. In a recent interview with The New York Times, Sharma stated that "competition and collaboration can coexist" between the brands.

The statement comes as the console makers have already moved in that direction. Recent years have seen major franchise titles cross platforms: Halo and Gears of War arrived on PlayStation 5, while Helldivers 2 launched on Xbox.

A notable flashpoint in the interview involved Xbox's recent move to take over publishing duties for Physint, the upcoming stealth game from Hideo Kojima's studio, from PlayStation Studios. According to New York Times sources, Xbox is funding the project at a level "substantially below what Xbox would typically spend to develop a premium game."

When asked whether she owed Sony an apology for securing the Physint deal, Sharma laughed off the suggestion and shrugged, saying she was happy that Kojima chose to work with Xbox. She did not elaborate further on the reasoning behind PlayStation Studios' decision to step away from the project or the financial terms of Xbox's involvement.

Sharma clarified that work with Sony would continue despite the competitive nature of the industry. The comments suggest both companies remain open to business opportunities, though their strategies may diverge as new console generations approach, including Xbox's Project Helix and PlayStation's PS6.
